In the early 1980s, the hip-hop movement - and with it graffiti - reached Europe, coming from the USA. Many young people find themselves in it, become enthusiastic and start to actively express themselves with the 4 elements of hip-hop (breakdance, rap, DJ-ing and graffiti). After more than 30 years, many of these elements are integrated into our everyday life, e.g. in fashion, music, the appearance of our cities. Graffiti in particular has changed our cities. At the same time, graffiti was and is often an expression of the will for change, rebellion and the intensive examination of social and societal issues.
This was also the case with two boys from Munich (WON & COWBOY69): one of them, a German, grows up well protected and supported, the other, a Turk, is left alone and has to struggle through life. Both paths cross in the graffiti group ABC, which they founded. Trains, house walls and electricity boxes are illegally spray-painted. The city and life are to become more colourful! The exhibition traces this time and the attitude to life, shows the graffiti art of the two sprayers at that time and today and traces their lives. In doing so, the exhibition combines graffiti from back then with the street art of today and shows what creativity and rebellion can contribute to the representation and change of society.
